What Are the Release Types and Track Limits?

Track count limits for Single, EP, and Album releases, and what "1–3 songs" means when you choose Single as your release type.

Your release type is determined by how many total tracks you plan to include, and it's selected back in Basic Information:

  • Single: 1 to 3 tracks
  • EP: 4 to 6 tracks
  • Album: 6+ tracks

What "1–3 songs" means for a Single

Choosing Single doesn't limit you to uploading just one song. A Single can include 1, 2, or 3 tracks total.

  • This is common for releasing a main track alongside a B-side, a remix, or an instrumental version, all packaged under the same release.
  • All tracks in a Single still count toward the same release: they share one release title, one piece of cover art, and one release date.

You can add up to 3 songs to a Single from the Manage Tracks step, either by uploading new files or selecting from your completed EngineEars projects.

Other things worth knowing about track limits

  • The track count you upload in Manage Tracks must match the release type you selected. If you select Single but try to upload a 4th track, you'll need to go back and change your release type to EP first.
  • Your release type affects how your release is categorized and displayed on DSPs (streaming platforms), so it's worth choosing the type that best matches how you want the project to be perceived, not just the type that technically fits the track count.
  • If you're not sure which type fits your project, choose based on how you want it marketed and remembered: a 6-track project framed as an EP reads differently to listeners than the same 6 tracks framed as an Album.
