How do I select a Song Version for my distribution release?

Select Song Version to upload alternate variations of your track in your Streaming release

A Song Version is the specific variation of a track that is different from the original version of the song. Each alternative version of a song that you want to optionally include in your release needs to be independently uploaded and defined appropriately.

If a song version is defined for an uploaded track, the song version will be automatically appended to the end of the song title (unless it's the original song version), for example:

  • Original Song Version (default) = Kendrick Lamar - Not Like Us
  • Instrumental Song Version = Kendrick Lamar - Not Like Us (Instrumental)
  • Radio Edit Song Version = Kendrick Lamar - Not Like Us (Radio Edit)
  • Live Song Version = Kendrick Lamar - Not Like Us (Live)

Below are the definitions of the different Song Versions currently available for you to select:

Acapella: music performed without any accompanying instruments, only vocals

Acoustic: music performed without any electronic instruments

Cover Version: music performed by someone other than the original artist/performer or composer. If your release contains a cover version, make sure you obtain a license and explicit permission from the original artist, composer or rights holder

Deluxe: a re-release of an album with extra content added/included with the album release

Extended Version: a longer version of the original song (e.g. a bonus verse added)

Instrumental: music performed without any vocals on the song, only instruments

Live: music performed during a live performance (e.g. live concert recording)

Original Song Version: original version of the song release. Selecting this will not append anything to the end of the song title, as this is the default.

Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: compilation of songs that consist of all the music of a film or TV show. This version must be selected if the genre is "Soundtrack". Mention of "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" must also appear on the album artwork.

Production Music: recorded music that is produced with the intention to be licensed to clients for film, television, radio, commercials, advertising etc. rather than music that is intended for general audience listening.

Radio Edit: a version of a song made specifically for radio broadcasting. This could be a song that is censored from having explicit content/language be heard for on-air radio play or general audience listening (Parental Advisory = Clean)

Remastered: a remastered version of the track to improve the sound quality from the original.

Remix: a new or different version of a recorded song that is made by changing or adding to the original version of the recorded song. If your release contains a remix version, make sure you obtain a license and explicit permission from the original artist, composer or rights holder

Single Edit: a version of the track released as a single with changes compared to the released album version of the track.

Note: If you're looking to upload a Dolby Atmos format of your song (in addition to releasing the standard stereo format) to provide listeners with a spatial audio experience, here's how.
