Can I Add Lyrics to My Release?

If you're submitting lyrics with your release, it's important they are properly formatted so they can be delivered and displayed correctly across platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and Instagram.

Where Your Lyrics Go?

Lyrics are delivered directly to Apple Music through Supply Chain as part of your release.

Other Platforms (Spotify, Instagram, etc.)

For all other DSPs, lyrics are managed through Musixmatch.

To get your lyrics live on these platforms, you’ll need to:

  • Create an account on Musixmatch

  • Apply to become a Verified Artist

  • Upload and sync your lyrics for each release

Formatting Requirements (Apple Music)

To ensure your lyrics are accepted and displayed correctly, follow these rules:

1. Single-Spaced Lines

Each lyric line should be written on its own line with no extra spacing.

2. Double Space Between Stanzas

Separate verses or sections with one blank line.

3. Repeat Lines Must Be Written Out

If a line repeats in the song, you must write it out each time. Do not use shortcuts like “(Repeat x3)”.

4. Match the Audio Exactly

Lyrics must reflect exactly what is said in the track.

5. Background Vocals

Background vocals should be placed on a separate line immediately after the main vocal.

✅ Correct Format

Until you respect me and my dogs

I’ll keep barking up the wrong tree
I’ll keep barking up the wrong tree
I’ll keep barking up the wrong tree
I’ll keep barking up the wrong tree

❌ Incorrect Format

Until you respect me and my dogs

I’ll keep barking up the wrong tree
(Repeat x3)

Time-Synced Lyrics

If you want your lyrics to appear in real-time (karaoke-style), additional formatting is required.

Please refer to the Time-Synced Lyrics Guide for full instructions.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using “repeat” instead of writing lyrics out

  • Adding extra spacing between lines

  • Submitting lyrics that don’t match the final audio

  • Combining background vocals into the same line as lead vocals
